Sustainable Food Program

Guatemala

Clubs de Niños y Niñas de Centro América launched the Sustainable Food Program in Guatemala to focus on sustainable, healthy eating in low-income areas that face food insecurity. This innovative program is a fully interactive journey for youth and their communities that teaches about life and the biological sciences as it relates to food and healthy living. Designed in partnership with Universidad de San Carlos, the program consists of eight sessions that can be adjusted by age, region, and accessibility. It includes educational materials, board games, and a digital version, all of which guide entire communities as they learn about healthy sustainable living. Club participants have also helped the program evolve to reach more people, as many families both in cities and in remote locations have learned to grow their own food. The success of the program in addressing the issue of food insecurity has led the Club to be nominated as a Promise Awards Finalist!
