Unicef UK, Sports Programmes Specialist
Liz Twyford has worked for Unicef UK for over 13 years, in a role focused on protecting and promoting children’s rights in, around, and through sport.
She has been involved in supporting the delivery and evaluation of International Inspirational, the international social legacy programme of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the development of Unicef UK’s partnership with the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, and the founding and coordination of the International Safeguarding Children in Sport initiative. She is also a member of FIFA’s Child Safeguarding Expert Working Group.
Prior to joining UNICEF, Liz spent many years in the development field, living and working for more than 2 years in Bhutan where she supported Save the Children’s community sport work, and for a year in Cameroon, supporting sport for development programmes in the Northwest province. She has worked in more than 15 countries over the past 10 years, with a focus on supporting community mobilization, sport for development and protecting and promoting children’s rights in, around and through sport.
