Community Action Teams

 Mukono, Uganda

The Petros Zoe Initiative has partnered with Rescue One More to create Community Action Teams, multidisciplinary teams devoted to finding justice for youth survivors of sexual violence and human trafficking. In Uganda, 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys experience this abuse as children, and perpetrators are rarely held accountable. Composed of community leaders, law enforcement, medical and mental health professionals, Community Action Teams coordinate strategies to address the needs of children impacted by sexual violence by connecting children with resources, working together to bring evidence before the court, and helping children access safe, supportive services from caring adults. With survivors of all ages, the Petros Zoe Initiative has facilitated the justice process for 15 cases and have helped each child feel safe and heard throughout the entire process. The Petros Zoe Community Action Teams continue to make their communities safer for all youth, and have been nominated as a Promise Awards Finalist for their efforts to receive justice for children in need in their community.
